When? Classes start February 12, 2012 at 6:00 pm! Download the registration form and register by January 31.
What is the Alpha Course? It is a practical introduction to the Christian faith, a place where guests (attendees) have an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The course will meet once per week for 10 weeks and include a day Retreat in the middle. Each session, people enjoy great food, laughter and learning about the teachings of Jesus in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile. There is no charge to attend the Alpha Course.
Who is Alpha For? Alpha is for anyone! People from all backgrounds, religions and viewpoints are invited to attend. They come to perhaps investigate questions about the existence of God, the purpose of life, what happens after death, the teachings of Jesus and more. Since it is for anyone, some may have only attended church occasionally, are already Christians, or have never attended church. Everyone is welcome!
What can I expect in an Alpha Course? The course usually lasts for 10-weeks, with a day retreat near the middle. The evening begins with food and fellowship, followed by a bit of Praise and Worship in song. From there we move on to ‘Talks’, which are presentations of the weekly topics, springboards for the small group discussions.
- Who is Jesus?
- Why Did Jesus Die?
- How Can We have Faith?
- Why Should and How do I pray?
- Why and How Should I Read the Bible?
- How Does God Guide Us?
- – Day Retreat – Who is the Holy Spirit?
- What Does the Holy Spirit do?
- How Can I be Filled with the Holy Spirit?
- How can I Make the Most of the Rest of My Life?
- How Can I Resist Evil?
- Does God Heal Today?
After each evening ‘Talk’, the whole group is divided into smaller groups to discuss the week’s topic. The members in the small groups are encouraged to contribute their thoughts and opinions, as well as ask questions in a non-threatening, non-judgmental environment. Plus, guests/attendees usually remain in the same group for the duration of the course to continue discussions and foster friendships.
The evening concludes after about a 30-minute discussion within the groups.
