Wesley’s Council on Ministries, young adults, youth and our mature adults had the honor of serving our First Responders from Austin Police Department, Austin-Travis County EMS, Austin Fire Department and Travis County Sheriff’s Department at a luncheon on June 25, 2016.
What a beautiful day seeing a community of faith of all generations working together for a common goal recognizing and giving support to our First Responders for their commitment, bravery and selfless acts they demonstrate daily. This was an opportunity for the church to reach out with open hearts, open minds to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ and making an assertive effort on bridging the gap between the church and the community by building relationships, mutual respect and trust.
It was an opportunity to instill in our youth that we all have been called to serve. Mark 10:45 says that even the Son of Man came down not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Each department was given a plaque and a gift basket from various ministries. We also welcomed the Boy Scouts, Troop 6 supported by Austin Voices and their Scout Master and also Conference Chair of United Methodist Men.
