What To Expect

Wesley United Methodist Church is located near downtown in Austin, Texas. Our Sunday church service begins at 10:00 and is a traditional service with contemporary elements. On a typical Sunday we have an average of 180 attendees. Most members will be dressed in Sunday Best but you are encouraged to come as you are!

At Wesley, services include singing, praising, praying, and hearing a bible-based message. God has changed our lives in a way that’s worth celebrating! You are invited to join in with the singing, say hallelujah if you are so moved, or silently participate.  We want you to feel at home with us.

On the First Sunday of every month we will have Holy Communion. All are welcome to partake. During Communion, each row is invited to the altar rail to receive the bread and wine (we serve juice).

During service, we will pass the offering plate once. If this is your first time to attend Wesley, don’t feel obligated to give during the offering. We do ask that you fill out the visitor card so we’ll know you were our guest.

Our Austin church has been recognized as a “Welcoming Congregation” by The United Methodist Church. This mark of recognition is earned each year through efforts of a local congregation to prepare actively and intentionally to receive newcomers. We would be delighted to welcome you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What about my kids?

Children are always welcome! Children’s Church (ages 5-12) is provided on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays.  The nursery is available during all worship times.

What happens during church service?

  • Worship: A time to connect with God through song and prayer. Feel free to stand and sing with us.

  • Offering: This is another way to show love to God by returning a portion of our income for God’s purposes. If you are a guest, please don’t feel obligated to participate in the offering.

  • Welcome/Announcements: A time set aside to let our guests know that we appreciate them joining our service.  And if you are looking for a church home, you are welcome at Wesley.  We also take the time to let you know about opportunities and events happening in the life of the church.

  • Sermon: Pastor Chase or a guest preacher will bring a message based on scripture from the Bible.

  • Response: A song and invitation to act on what we’ve heard in the sermon.  At this time you can come for prayer, to join the church, or to indicate your desire to be baptized.
Am I expected to give anything?

During service, we will pass the offering plate once. If this is your first time to attend Wesley, don’t feel obligated to give during the offering. We do ask that you fill out the visitor card so we’ll know you were our guest.

What about Holy Communion?

Holy Communion is observed on the First Sunday of Every Month and all are welcome to partake of the Holy Sacrament.

During Communion, each row is invited to the altar rail to receive the bread and wine. Some guests are not sure about participating in communion. It’s a personal decision, and it’s not uncommon for a few people in the service to stay in their seats during communion.
